More About Surgery

Plastic surgery for removing Bichat’s fat pads is a popular way to correct the appearance. The procedure is aimed at creating clearer facial contours by removing fatty accumulations from the cheek area. Yurchenko Team doctors regularly perform such operations and have a large portfolio of grateful clients.

What are Buccal’s fat removal?

Bichat’s fat pads are fat pads located in the cheeks between the muscles. They can make your face look rounder. Sometimes, even with a rather slender complexion and BMI, these pads:

  • make the face look extra round;
  • disrupt the harmony between the face and body;
  • add extra kilos and years.

Often, Bichat’s fat pads become fat traps where adipose tissue accumulates. Even if you lose weight, go on a diet and exercise regularly, fat remains in this area. Only surgery can remove it.

Popularity

The surgery gained popularity among people who want to get more prominent cheekbones. It is especially popular among models, actors, and other public persons.

Indications

  • Excessive volume in the cheek area.
  • Desire to create more prominent cheekbones.
  • A rounded face that does not match the desired look.

Expected outcomes

  • Sharper facial contours.
  • Cheekbones become more expressive.
  • Reduction of cheek volume.

Duration of the result

Results of plastic surgery when the adipose tissue is removed are permanent, as the fat pads are removed permanently.

Combination with other operations

Fat pads removal can be combined with other rejuvenating surgeries, such as facelifting, blepharoplasty, and body plastic surgery (abdominal liposuction, mammoplasty).

Contraindications

  • General contraindications to surgical interventions.
  • Infections or inflammation in the cheek area.
  • Diseases that disrupt blood coagulation.

Preparation

The first step on the way to a beautiful facial contour is a consultation (online or offline) with a Yurchenko Team doctor. The specialist assesses the condition of the skin, size of the fat pads, asks about existing contraindications.

Before the surgery, patients are scheduled for mandatory workup. If the surgery is performed under general anesthesia, the workup includes: complete blood count, general urine test, biochemical analysis (ALT, AST, urea, creatinine, total protein, total, direct and indirect bilirubin, glucose), coagulogram, WR, HBsAg, HCV, HIV, Blood type, Rh factor, ECG, fluorography or X-ray (not older than 1 year). You also need to make an appointment with a general practitioner and an anesthesiologist. If the surgery is performed under local anesthesia, the scope of examinations may be slightly reduced.

It is necessary to refrain from Botox and filler injections in the cheeks, middle third of the face, and mouth area within 3 months before the surgery.

Stages of the Buccal’s fat removal

The surgeon makes two small incisions inside the mouth on the inner side of the cheeks. Incisions are placed in such a way as not to leave visible scars on the face.

Through the made incisions, the surgeon carefully removes fat pads (Bichat’s fat pads). It is performed with minimal injury to the surrounding tissue to reduce the risk of complications and ensure rapid healing. Both cheeks are treated equally to achieve symmetrical results.

After removing the Bichat’s fat pads, the incisions inside the oral cavity are closed with absorbable sutures. These sutures do not need to be removed, as they dissolve independently within a few weeks.

Postoperative care and recovery

The patient can usually return home on the same day after surgery. Recovery period includes:

First days: it is possible to experience swelling and mild pain, which is controlled by painkillers. Patient should follow a liquid or soft diet to avoid injury to the surgical site.

One week after surgery: reduction of edema. Patients are recommended to avoid physical activities and sudden movements.

In 2–3 weeks: most patients fully recover, swelling disappears, and the final results come to life.

Complications

Similarly to any surgery, complications such as infection, excessive bleeding, or a reaction to anesthesia are possible. You should trust the professionals of the Yurchenko Team to prevent the development of complications. Plastic surgery to remove Bichat’s fat pads is an effective way to improve facial contours, make your face look more expressive, and increase self-confidence. Always consult with a qualified plastic surgeon to determine if this method of appearance correction is appropriate for you.
