More About Surgery
The area around the eyes is the first to show age-related changes. Cosmetic procedures can slightly slow down the appearance of wrinkles, “crow’s feet,” and loss of tone, but only circular eyelid surgery or circular blepharoplasty performed by Yurchenko Team doctors can bring back youthful appearance and restore the contour of the eyes.
Main indications
Circular blepharoplasty will help remove the wrinkles on the upper and lower eyelids at once:
- mimic wrinkles — “crow’s feet” and static, gravitational wrinkles around the eyes;
- visible lacrimal (hernial) sacs;
- herniated fat pads;
- acquired or congenital eyelid droop;
- eyelid asymmetry.
Patients often begin their journey to surgical facial rejuvenation with eyelid surgery. Although the surgery is minor, it significantly improves the perception of the face and “takes away” 7–10 years.
Benefits
Circular blepharoplasty is a surgery during which the doctor is able to comprehensively rejuvenate the area around the eyes. Additionally, circular plastic helps:
- to provide a stable result of a cheerful, a frank look in the eyes for 7–10 years;
- to eliminate congenital or deformational anomalies, age-related changes in eyelid tissues;
- to achieve the effect of rejuvenation when cosmetic methods and injection cosmetology are simply helpless.
It is often recommended to combine circular eyelid surgery with other operations to achieve an even better effect. For example, with a temporal lifting, face lifting, brow lifting, lipofilling, etc. All of this is within the expertise of Yurchenko Team’s doctors.
Preparation
The initial appointment can be made both online and offline. Before the surgery, the doctor examines the patient, assesses the condition of the eyelids, the amount of excess skin and adipose tissue. Before the scheduled date of surgery, patients have a list of required workup tests. It includes a complete blood count, a general urine test, biochemistry (ALT, AST, urea, creatinine, total protein, total direct and indirect bilirubin, glucose), coagulation, test WR, HBsAg, HCV, HIV, Blood type, Rh factor, ECG, fluorography or X-ray (not older than 1 year), consultation by a general practitioner and anesthesiologist.
If patients have fillers in the eye area, they need to consult with a cosmetologist to remove them. Also, Botox injections should be excluded for at least 3 months before the circular eyelid surgery.
Surgery steps
A plastic surgeon makes markings on the skin around the eyes, determining the incision sites, marking excess skin that needs to be removed. After that, the patient undergoes general anesthesia.
Then, the surgeon makes neat incisions along the natural folds of the skin on the upper and lower eyelids. It makes the incision lines almost invisible after healing, as they are hidden in the natural folds of the skin.
The surgeon removes excess skin, deposits of adipose tissue, hernias, and, if necessary, tightens the eyelid muscles. Cosmetic sutures are applied to the incision site. The doctor uses ordinary surgical material for the sutures, which is removed on the 7th day after surgery.
Recovery
The first days after circular eyelid surgery are the most difficult for the patient. Swelling, aching pain, and a feeling of eyelid distension are the body’s natural response to plastic surgery. It is recommended to use cold compresses for the first 48 hours to minimize discomfort and prevent swelling. For this purpose, all patients receive a special cooling mask upon discharge.
What to do at home? Treat the scars with chlorhexidine solution once a day for the first fourteen days. It is important to avoid contact with hot steam during this period. So avoid cooking and ironing.
Sometimes there may be significant bruising after surgery as an individual response to a trigger. We recommend using heparin ointment or Lioton on bruises to restore blood circulation and eliminate this, avoiding areas with scars.
When are the sutures removed? Usually, on the 7th day after the surgery, the patient visits the doctor. The specialist assesses the rate of healing and removes stitches. After that, you can use skincare products and carefully apply makeup.Also, exposure to the sun, high temperatures, and physical activity during the month is undesirable. Therefore, sunglasses and wide-brimmed hats are a must-have for patients undergoing a circular eyelid lifting procedure. You can enjoy the first results in 10–14 days, but the final result will be visible in 2–3 months after the surgery. That is why Yurchenko Team doctors emphasize that you need to be patient, follow the recommendations carefully, and have a positive attitude.
Complications
Like any surgical intervention, circular blepharoplasty can be associated with certain complications. Some possible complications include:
- Swelling and bruising. This is a normal postoperative phenomenon that usually resolves in a few weeks.
- Dryness or irritation of the eyes. Patients may experience dryness, tearing, or sensitivity to light. Consult with your doctor and they will recommend moisturizing drops.
- Infection. Risk of infection always exists, but it is minimized by appropriate wound care and sterile conditions. That is why it is important not to wet the scars for the first 7 days and treat them regularly with chlorhexidine.
- Asymmetry. A slight asymmetry of the eyelids is possible after surgery, which may require additional correction. It depends on the individual characteristics of the patient’s tissues.
- Ectropion or entropion. This means, respectively, eversion or wrapping of the eyelid edge, which requires additional surgical intervention. It occurs rarely.
To minimize the risk of complications, it is important to carefully choose a qualified surgeon and follow all postoperative care recommendations.
