More About Surgery

All girls dream of lush and beautiful breasts. Except for those girls who have them curvy by nature. Unfortunately, large breasts are very short-lived. The forces of gravity cannot be canceled, therefore, over time, the chest loses its shape, begins to fall, and creates an additional load on the spine and neck.

Why do some girls have curvy breasts?

Several factors influence the size of the bust:

  • large breasts by nature are a genetic “gift” from the family;
  • hormonal imbalance and the development of gigantomastia.

If a patient has hormonal problems, the doctors of Yurchenko Team always refer her for additional examination to an endocrinologist. In such cases, the surgery can only be performed after completing the course of treatment. Otherwise, the breasts will continue to grow, and the results of the operation will not be stable.

Breast Reduction without implants

Breast reduction surgery (reduction mammoplasty) can be done with or without implants. The use of implants in such cases allows for maintaining breast shape and minimizes the risk of sagging. Typically, reduction mammoplasties are performed using two methods – the “anchor” lift or the vertical lift. The choice of method depends on various factors and is determined individually for each patient.

Breast plastic surgery: preparation for surgery

  • Consultation. At the consultation, the doctors from the Yurchenko Team discuss all the details of the surgery and answer all the patients’ questions about implants,
  • preparation, surgery, rehabilitation, and much more. It is important to understand the girls’ expectations, so it is recommended to have an idea of the desired result before the visit.
  • Examination. Yurchenko Team doctors measure the level of breast prolapse, its asymmetry, and assess the condition of the tissues. Then they choose the method of surgery and the best implant option.
  • Comprehensive Medical Evaluation. Mammoplasty is possible only after positive results of a preliminary examination of the patient by a gynaecologist, therapist, and a number of mandatory tests. These include an ultrasound of the mammary glands, an ECG, a set of tests (complete blood count, biochemical blood count, blood sugar), a coagulogram, a test for AIDS, HIV, hepatitis B and C, Wasserman’s reaction, blood type and Rh factor). You may also need additional examinations by an endocrinologist and a set of tests.

What implants are used?

Yurchenko Team doctors use anatomical or round implants from Polytech, Motiva, Eurosilicone, Nagor. They are certified and have shown exceptionally good results over the years of practice. As a rule, Yurchenko Team plastic surgeons use Polytech Replicon polyurethane implants for reduction mammoplasty with a complex lift. They do an excellent job of fixing the breast.

The specialists are also impressed by the new development of the German company Polytech – lightweight BLite implants. Their weight is 30% less compared to traditional implants. Thanks to their lighter weight, they are an ideal solution for girls who are indicated for implants with a volume of more than 350 ml and who are at risk of repeated breast prolapse (ptosis). The high quality of these implants is confirmed by a lifetime warranty on their integrity. Upon discharge, patients receive warranty documents from the implant manufacturer.

Breast reduction and lift: how the operation goes

The total duration of the operation is on average 1.5-3 hours. General anaesthesia is used. The breast shape correction is carried out by 2 methods:

  • vertical incision, which is made around the nipple and vertically downwards. During the operation, excess tissue and subcutaneous fat are removed, while the nipple is moved higher. After rehabilitation, an inconspicuous strip no more than 1 mm wide remains.
  • anchor incision, which is made around the nipple, goes down to the fold and continues under the fold (has the shape of an anchor).

The Yurchenko Team doctors prefer this method if it is necessary to reduce a significant amount of breast volume or if the patient has severe ptosis. After rehabilitation, a subtle cosmetic scar remains.

Rehabilitation

After surgery, it is important to take care of yourself as much as possible, especially in the first month of recovery. It is necessary to follow all the care recommendations to fix the result of the operation. The first 24 hours after the operation, patients are under observation in the clinic. Control examinations are carried out on days 3, 7, 14, during which the sutures are treated with disinfectants, plasters are changed, and further recommendations are given.

Within 14 days after surgery, it is necessary:

  • Do not allow water to get on the sutures. After the 14th day, the doctor re-examines the sutures. If there are no signs of inflammation, water procedures are allowed. You just need to wipe the sutures with chlorhexidine every time.
  • Completely eliminate the load on the shoulder joint. It is strictly forbidden to raise your arms above the shoulder.
  • Avoid driving and air travel.
  • Sleep in a semi-sitting position for the first week. Then – on your back. Do not sleep on your stomach for up to 6 months, on your side for up to 3 months.
  • Do not drink alcohol for the first 14 days while the course of antibiotics prescribed by the surgeon is ongoing.

During the first month:

  • It is necessary to wear compression garments to properly fix the breast. 1 set of such underwear is included in the cost of the operation.
  • Only after a month can you return to light exercise in the gym, but without stress on the shoulder girdle. Training should take place under the supervision of a trainer.
  • After 4-6 months, you can return to a normal sports regime.

Complications after breast reduction

Breast reduction surgery can significantly improve the quality of life of patients by reducing physical discomfort and increasing self-esteem. However, complications can occur due to the anatomical features of the tissues and violation of the recommendations of the Yurchenko Team doctors. The most common complications are:

  • Infections. One of the possible complications is the development of infections in the area of surgery. This can be manifested by redness, swelling, pain and fever. Treatment usually involves prescribing antibiotics, and in some cases, a second operation may be required to clean the wound.
  • Bleeding and haematomas. After surgery, bleeding may occur, leading to the formation of haematomas (accumulation of blood under the skin). This complication may require additional surgery to remove blood clots and stop bleeding.
  • Changes in sensitivity. The sensitivity of the nipples and the skin around them may change. This may be a temporary phenomenon, but in some cases, the loss or decrease in sensitivity may be permanent.
  • Scars. Breast reduction surgery always leaves scars. Although they usually become less noticeable over time, some patients may develop large or hypertrophic scars that require additional treatment or correction.
  • Asymmetry. After surgery, breast asymmetry is possible, when one breast may be larger or have a different shape than the other. This complication may require additional surgery to achieve symmetry.
  • Tissue necrosis. In rare cases, tissue necrosis (tissue death) may occur in the nipple area or other parts of the breast. This is a serious complication that requires immediate medical attention and may require surgical correction.
  • Seroma is the accumulation of fluid under the skin in the area of surgery. This complication may require drainage or aspiration of the fluid.
  • Poor wound healing. In some cases, wounds may heal slowly or improperly, which may require additional treatment and prolong the rehabilitation period.

Before undergoing breast reduction surgery, it is important to discuss all potential risks and complications with a qualified surgeon. This will help the patient make an informed decision and be prepared for possible consequences.

Why it is worth having surgery at Yurchenko Team
Breast reduction surgery is a fairly popular operation. Although at first glance you wouldn’t think so. Qualitatively reducing the breasts, correcting the nipple area, restoring elasticity, volume, and shape is a whole art that the doctors of the Yurchenko Team are fluent in.

Each doctor in the team has his or her own area of expertise. In plastic surgery, there are more than 70 types of operations with numerous nuances. Thanks to the division of duties, our doctors can improve their skills in a specific area, which ensures high quality of work. This is the philosophy we adhere to.

Denys Yurchenko, the leader of the Yurchenko Team and the author of the unique 70/30 anchor lift technique, is an expert in breast surgery and performs mammoplasty exclusively. Dmytro Mikulich is a mammologist, oncologist and reconstructive surgeon with unique experience in breast reconstruction after cancer and in complex reconstruction cases.

We do not limit patients to one location, but offer comfortable conditions in Kyiv, Bukovel and Limassol.

FAQ

At what age can I have mammoplasty?

Officially, from the age of 18. If you need to have it done earlier - and I've had such cases - you need a written permission from your parents and the presence of one of them.

For example, there was a 17-year-old girl who had a breast augmentation for her modelling career. And it worked - she won the Miss Denmark pageant and participated in the international Miss Universe pageant. There was a girl who had a congenital deformity corrected at the age of 17. There was a lot of stuff, but it's great when girls have the support of their parents.

Is mammoplasty and its results permanent?

Most likely not. Why is that?

Unfortunately, nothing lasts forever. Your body is constantly changing during your life - without exaggeration, every day from birth to death. Therefore, you cannot expect the result of mammoplasty to be equally stable a year after surgery and 20 years after surgery.

Not only will your tissues change, but also your preferences. What you find attractive at 25 is likely to be very different from your preferences at 45.

The only thing that will remain stable over the years is the integrity of the implants. Almost all manufacturers of the new generation of implants provide a lifetime warranty on the integrity of their shell.

Why do I need to install drains during mammoplasty?

I always use drains during mammoplasty. This is a precautionary measure, drainage in mammoplasty is an additional insurance. Like a seat belt in a car. You may not need it, but if you suddenly get into an accident, the belt can save your life.

It's the same with drainage. You may not need it, but it is better to have it just in case.

Why is it needed? It removes the fluid that accumulates around the implant. If the fluid is not drained, it can lead to such complications as capsular contracture, seroma, poor fixation of the implant and, as a result, its rotation/displacement.

Drains are installed during surgery for the first 24 hours. When I am discharged, I remove them and then the rehabilitation takes place without them.

There are practically no traces of drains. And if there are, they are extremely inconspicuous.

Does your doctor stand for maximum safety?

Which implants are the best?

The answer is obvious - those that solve the problem at hand.

For example, some patients can choose between any implants certified in Ukraine - Polytech, Motiva, Eurosilicone, Mentor, Nagor, Arion, BellaGel, and others. Here I mean patients who plan to undergo breast augmentation with implants (augmentation mammoplasty).

But if the planned surgery includes various types of lifts, implant replacement, correction of contracture/seroma and other complications, then things are more complicated. It is necessary to choose the right size, shape and, most importantly, the implant coating, so that the result is long-term and I see you only for preventive examinations, letting you go on a ‘long free swim’ with your new breasts with a light heart.

And here I never offer an implant of choice, because the patient will never be able to make the right choice. Just imagine - each manufacturer has a range of sizes from 50 ml to 1000 ml; anatomical and round shapes; low, medium, high and extra-high projection; from 2 to 5 types of implant coating. And among all these options, you need to choose the only correct combination of implant factors, add to it the patient's tissue condition and surgical technique, and select the only correct option.

For example, a polyurethane implant is almost the only option for repeated lifts, the smoothest possible implant for correcting and preventing contractures, and so on. Therefore, in cases of complex corrections, I suggest that you entrust the choice of implant to your doctor. However, your doctor will be grateful if you look at examples of his or her work, make your own top list, and show the desired result before the consultation. For example, you can see my work in the Telegram channel (link in the pinned story).

Of course, you can also read forums - but keep in mind that all these theses about the ‘softest implant’ and ‘safest implant’ are the creativity of manufacturers' marketers. Therefore, it is better to spend time choosing a doctor whom we will trust 100%.
